Mission Statement | Montreal Dickens Fellowship

Montreal Dickens Fellowship
for the best of times

The International Dickens Fellowship Mission:

  1. to knit together in a common bond of friendship, lovers of that great master of humour and pathos, Charles Dickens;
  2. to promote the knowledge and appreciation of his works;
  3. to spread the love of humanity, which is the keynote of all his works; and to exercise such charitable support as would have appealed strongly to the heart of Charles Dickens;
  4. to take such measures as may be expedient to alleviate those existing social evils, the amelioration of which would have enlisted his support;
  5. to assist in the preservation and purchase of buildings and objects associated with his name or mentioned in his works

Our Montreal Mission:

To bring together like-minded Dickens enthusiasts from the Montreal area for regular meetings which will be fun and informative. Members do not have to be Dickens experts to participate. Far from it! All that is needed is a desire to know more about his works, his life and his times and a wish to share some fun, enlightening afternoons (or evenings) with some kindred spirits.

We are more than a book club! Our gatherings include social events and group outings. Through our website we want to reach out to Dickens lovers and keep them and our members informed of cultural programs and events in our community pertaining to literature, Dickensiana and Victoriana. We want Montreal to be connected to the Dickens world and to feel that it is truly part of an international fellowship!

As per the mandate of the International Dickens Fellowship, we have chosen as our charity the appropriately named Tiny Tim Fund of the Montreal Childrens’ Hospital (see link). As we are a volunteer, non-profit society, all proceeds from dues, events etc, after operating expenses will be donated to this worthy cause.
